LJ Idol – Week 6

I forgot to post my entry from last week’s LJ Idol. I survived another week with this poem on the assigned topic…

Haunted

Two eight year old girls held hands and giggled
as they skated across the frosty lake
where Roxanne’s body
–fifty feet below–
would remain
undiscovered
until spring.

Boring sales figures…

…that aren’t really so boring.

Looks like I was wrong about no more posts until Monday. Just a brief announcement–for those of you interested in how the indie publishing thing is working out–that this morning I hit 351 copies sold of Waiting For Spring. This was due in large part to two separate book clubs placing orders this week; one club for 15 books, the other for 20.

A great big thanks to everyone who’s read the book, bought the book, and/or helped support this endeavor by spreading the word. Most people I hear from have heard about Waiting For Spring from a friend or family member, rather than from my own marketing efforts. I can’t begin to tell you how much that means to me. Please know how very much I appreciate it.

Workin’ on the weekend

Today starts my work week(end). Between that, NaNoWriMo, and Family Stuff, I doubt I’ll be posting here until Monday. You can keep track of my NaNoProgress on my profile page if you’re so inclined. I posted a new excerpt there early this morning. Readers of Waiting For Spring will recognize this scene, which is now written from Rick’s POV for the new book.

In the meantime, have a great weekend!

Edited to add:
For those of you who haven’t read WFS, there is a spoiler in the NaNo excerpt. Consider yourself warned…

Regarding Palin

Shepard Smith of Fox News asks that age old question:

“How could [McCain] end up with a running mate who doesn’t know that Africa is a continent?”

I dunno, Shep. Maybe they figured Americans wouldn’t notice after 8 years of Dubya.

California’s Proposition 8 Passed

This morning, I was trying to send words of comfort to a friend of mine who lives in L.A. who happens to be gay. The email was full of words like ‘the day is coming’ and ‘this is just one battle–the war will be won.’ Cliche after stupid, mindless cliche.

It was all bullshit of course. And it’s easy for me to whisper ‘patience’ because it wasn’t my rights that were just shit all over. Rights already granted to the GLBT community earlier this year were just taken away from them.

This isn’t an abstract, political issue. These are people’s lives we’re talking about. Their most basic need for having a sense of security, for having a family, just suffered a public execution.
