This morning, I was trying to send words of comfort to a friend of mine who lives in L.A. who happens to be gay. The email was full of words like ‘the day is coming’ and ‘this is just one battle–the war will be won.’ Cliche after stupid, mindless cliche.
It was all bullshit of course. And it’s easy for me to whisper ‘patience’ because it wasn’t my rights that were just shit all over. Rights already granted to the GLBT community earlier this year were just taken away from them.
This isn’t an abstract, political issue. These are people’s lives we’re talking about. Their most basic need for having a sense of security, for having a family, just suffered a public execution.

It's unfortunate that our children and grandchildren will look back at our generation and it's anti-gay and lesbian stances the same way we look back at our parents and grandparents about civil rights – 'what the #$&% were you thinking?'
I just wish the Supreme Court would step up and give the GLBT community the rights that they are guaranteed in the constitution like the rest of us.
That is so sad. I’m glad none of my gay friends live in California with a bunch of homophobic Indian givers. This country needs to stop making such an issue out of things that shouldn’t be an issue. Ridiculous.
Lessee…MAJOR water issues, state budget in need of federal bailout, people upside down on their overpriced mortgages, shipping in serious trouble due to the current bank woes (Google “Letters of Credit” and “Baltic Dry Index” if you’re not already familiar with the problem) and their biggest fear is that two consenting adults of the same gender might get married?
That’s just so fucked up and wrong. I really don’t know what the hell is wrong with people.
1.)It’s sex not gender, dammit.
2.)There is no “right.” Rights that are granted can be just as easily revoked when the worm turns and bad law enshrined through fiat by black-robed oligarchs is still bad law – see Roe v. Wade.
3.)GLBT types are perfectly free to set up whatever legal arrangements they want. IMO, the government should get out of the marriage business altogether.
4.)I guess democracy sucks sometimes. The people have spoken. That it was likely the voters that ACORN and other libtard organizations signed up to sweep the Obamessiah into office just makes it funnier.
