I’ll admit it: This was hard. I really liked all of the suggestions for the ‘Design a Waiting For Spring t-shirt contest.’ But I said I was going to pick three of them for people to vote on, so that’s what I did. Here they are, in the order they were posted:
Kari: His eyes were Van Dyke brown
Shannon: Front: I’m a lumberjack
Back: Any person who cares about what I do to earn enough money to afford rent & music & beer & food & jeans deserves to think I spend my days in the wood cutting down trees.
[UDATED TO NOTE THE FOLLOWING: This design was tested, and it does fit on the back of a t-shirt.]
Natasha: Waiting for Spring
(Lori also suggested ‘Waiting For Spring,’ but Natasha’s post came first.)
Voting will close on Sunday, August 16 at midnight (EDT).
A BIG thank you to everyone who made a suggestion. I can’t begin to tell you all how much your support means to me.
Congrats to the final/top three!
I really like the second one too but I can’t picture all of that fitting on the back of a shirt!
That’s a good point, Kari; one I should have mentioned in the post.
I tested it out late last night just to make sure, and it does fit.
I’ll edit the post for clarification. Thanks!
I like the van dyke eyes line but think that whatever you choose the t-shirt should have Waiting For Spring on it somewhere.
Just my opinion.
So I am not sure how to vote.

Good point!
The non-‘Waiting For Spring’ t-shirt entries will have a trademark/copyright reference to the fact that the quote comes from the novel.
I fear the “lumberjack” reference will be assumed to be from Monty Python.
Can absolutely see a t-shirt reading “His eyes were Van Dyke brown” on the front absolutely COMPELLING someone to read the back, which has perhaps the book cover and title prominently displayed.
Great idea for a contest though, and fun.
I’m sorry…my response to BP Myers’ comment somehow did not get posted last week, and I didn’t notice it until today.
The Monty Python connection was not lost on me. In fact, Tess’s choice of ‘lumberjack’ was a semi-homage to the Lumberjack Song. (It was also chosen for other reasons, which I’ll get into in my next blog post.) The design I have in mind for the shirt will – I hope – leave a different impression in people’s minds than the skit, though.
I missed the voting, but I would have picked the winner. So….. my vote would have just been icing on the cake. O
