  1. My clock says it’s after midnight, so it’s tomorrow, and I just wanted to add my condolences. Sincerely.

I saw the game, and it was exciting. That and Game 5 was some of the most electrifying baseball I’ve ever seen. I know the Red Sox won’t be in the World Series this year, but in the pennant series I just saw, there were no losers.

And it should be some consolation to my once-fellow New Englanders that the Sox beat the living crap out of the Yankees this year. (We’ve been nursing that wound down here for some weeks now.)

Besides, as I used to say for, lo, those many years I was a Red Sox fan, wait until next year.

  2. I wish I knew what to say, but I just don’t get the whole ‘sport’ thing. Granted, that’s probably because the UK is pretty crap at it in general and we’re more interested in criticising Mrs Beckham’s pouty pose than her husband’s ball skills. I could re-phrase that, but I won’t.

  3. I don’t much care about professional sports one way or another, but I do have a soft spot for the Sox, since they were my grandpa’s favorite team. Even though I know he died of a heart attack while watching a football game, I prefer to believe it was from a broken heart, waiting and waiting for the Sox to resume their rightful place in the baseball stratosphere. He died almost 30 years too soon.

For the rest of us, there’s always next year.
